David Ajalat is a senior associate in the corporate department of Latham & Watkins and is a member of the firm's emerging growth companies practice group. He joined the firm in 2016 and is located in the Century City office.

Ajalat’s practice focuses on representing emerging companies, entrepreneurs and venture capital and private equity funds in a broad range of industries, including software, digital media and entertainment, sports, mobile, consumer Internet, e-commerce, virtual reality, gaming, cleantech and fintech. Ajalat advises emerging growth companies throughout their life-cycle, from formation and financings through exit planning. He also regularly represents venture capital, private equity and strategics in connection with their investments and M&A transactions.

Prior to joining Latham & Watkins, he was an associate at Cooley, LLP in Santa Monica and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, LLP in San Francisco.

Ajalat earned his JD from USC, where he graduated Order of the Coif. During law school, he externed for the Honorable Alex Kozinski of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He obtained his BA in Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University.

Orin Kerr was cited for his recent editorial on his experience taking the California bar exam much later in life in order to practice law in another state. "It’s not like you can test lawyerly competence among 20 topics any better than with 10 topics," Kerr commented. "It just requires more time memorizing, and it’s not obvious what that has to do with lawyerly ability.”
