Trial Advocacy (Spring 2018)

From Spring 2017
This course develops advocacy skills involved in all aspects of trial including opening statement, direct and cross-examination of witnesses, introduction of exhibits, and closing arguments. The ethical implications of litigation tactics and strategies will also be examined. In addition to attending a weekly seminar, students will work in small groups performing simulated trial practice exercises, which exercises will be critiqued by the professors and adjunct practicing lawyers. Students must have completed Evidence or be taking it simultaneously. Attendance and participation are required and will be considered in grading. Students will serve as trial counsel in two trials, one bench trial and one actual jury trial-- which will constitute a major portion of the grade. There will not be a final examination or paper. Class may not be taken CR/D/F. Enrollment is limited to 27 students.
