Welcome to Latino Law Students @ USC

We aim to create and cultivate an encouraging environment for current and prospective USC Law School students through academic support, scholarship, community service, and networking events. We also aim to maintain strong ties to our Alumni through networking events and by maintaining an alumni directory.

While most of us share an interest in issues affecting Latino/a communities, our organization is open to all law students.

News

The USC Gould School was ranked No. 4 among the nation's best law schools for Hispanics in the September 2007 issue of Hispanic Business. The schools listed are recognized as "[p]romoting and encouraging a diverse community where Hispanic students can thrive," the magazine stated. A cover story on the rankings quoted Robert Saltzman, associate dean of the Gould School. "It's not difficult to get fluctuations year to year, but the hard thing is to increase enrollment and sustain it," Saltzman said. "In the end, the most effective way for us to convince students to choose to come here is [for them to] meet current students and meet graduates who tell them this was a good place to go to," he said. The Gould School has successfully increased its minority enrollment, the article stated.

Announcements

USC La Raza is now the Latino Law Students Association (LLSA)

Changing the name to Latino Law Students Association is something that has been discussed for several years. It has never been done, however, largely out of respect for the founders of La Raza and the struggle they endured to form a group where Latinos, mostly Chicano/a, could feel a sense of community and belonging.

We deeply admire the determination of La Raza's founders to form our organization, fueled by a sense of activism and social responsibility. We wish to continue this mission. By changing the name to Latino Law Students, we hope to attract all Latino students, many of which are not Chicano, that have this same desire to belong and to work for their community.
