Entertainment and Media Law Program
Introduction
Entertainment and media lawyers live in an exciting time: content and technology markets are converging rapidly and the industry is developing new legal and business strategies to adapt. USC Law's Entertainment and Media Law Program offers students a unique opportunity to acquire the diverse skills and knowledge required to represent clients in this changed environment. Students earn a Certificate in Entertainment Law upon completion of a rigorous curriculum that exposes students to the legal and business issues that practitioners face in the film, television, communications, art and sports markets. Additionally, students with a special interest in film can take selected courses at USC's world-renowned School of Cinematic Arts.
Courses are taught by permanent faculty and lecturers drawn from the rich local community of entertainment and media lawyers, including partners at entertainment law firms and senior counsel at studios and television networks. Students who seek practical experience may apply to participate in USC Law's Intellectual Property and Technology Clinic, which provides a unique opportunity to represent clients in intellectual property-related matters. Taking advantage of our location in Los Angeles, the world's entertainment capital, students also have access to externship opportunities at entertainment law firms and legal departments at major studios and other entertainment and media companies.
Our teaching and clinical programs are complemented by the activities of our vibrant student societies in entertainment, intellectual property, sports and art law, which regularly invite high-profile speakers from the legal and business community. With the assistance of the law school, the Entertainment Law Society organizes an annual student trip to the Sundance Film Festival. Each spring and fall, students also have the opportunity to attend USC Law's renowned annual conferences for practitioners in intellectual property law and entertainment law.
