A show of support

Several USC Law students, faculty and staff members took turns handing out rainbow pins on Feb. 10 in a show of support for USC Law’s nondiscrimination policy as recruiters from the U.S. Navy and Air Force participated in the On-Campus Interviewing Program. About 500 pins were distributed.

USC Law’s nondiscrimination policy states that the school’s career services facilities are open to employers who do not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, national origin, disability, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or age. Because military recruiters are unable to certify that their hiring practices are consistent with USC Law’s nondiscrimination policy, the military’s participation in OCI has been a subject of some controversy. USC Law has allowed military recruiters at OCI since 2002, when the Department of Defense found the school to be out of compliance with federal regulations that require law schools to facilitate military recruiting or risk the loss of all federal funding to parent universities.
