La Raza announces new scholarship program

(Submitted by USC La Raza)

The USC La Raza Law Students Association recently announced the creation of a new scholarship dedicated to Latino law students studying at USC Law.

La Raza will work with the USC Mexican American Alumni Association (MAAA) to generate the scholarship fund. As the leading provider of Latino scholarships at USC, the MAAA has awarded more than $11 million in scholarships to nearly 6,000 USC students over the past 30 years.

La Raza plans to raise $25,000, and the MAAA will provide matching funds. Every donation will contribute towards a perpetual scholarship for Latino law students studying at USC.

According to 2L Oscar Medellin, this scholarship drive rests at the heart of La Raza’s commitment to encouraging the academic and professional success of Latinos studying at USC Law.

“As tuition increases, we must do everything possible to keep the doors to higher education open for Latino students,” Medellin said. “This is an ambitious effort, but the support we have already received is indicative of the support we expect to carry us to our goal.”
