Application Instructions

Online Application

Apply for the Summer Law & English program online.

Please note: applicants who are admitted to our LL.M. or M.C.L. program will receive an application fee waiver with their admissions letter. Therefore, if you have applied to our LL.M. or M.C.L. program, we recommend that you wait until you receive an admissions decision prior to applying to the SLE program.

Application Fee

The Summer Law & English Program application fee is $100. You may either submit your $100 application fee online via credit card, OR you may send a check or money order drawn on U.S. currency to the address below. Payments may be made to “USC Law School”.

If you are requesting housing, a separate $100 housing application fee is required. Please see Section 4 of the application for required housing fees.

If you have been admitted to and will enroll in the LL.M., M.C.L. or VIP program at USC Law, please follow the instructions included with your admissions packet to waive your $100 application fee.

Financial Support Documents & Passport Copy

All applications must be sent with a financial statement that certifies sufficient funds are available to meet both your living (housing, meals, etc.) and program expenses while at USC (unless you are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or have been granted political asylum). Your financial statement must show a minimum of US$5,500. If you are bringing your spouse and/or dependents, then you must add an additional $500 for your spouse and $250 for each child to the minimum amount on your Financial Support Form.

Your financial statement can be provided in any of these forms:

  • A current personal bank statement or letter from your bank
  • A current letter of support AND bank statement from your parent, guardian, employer or sponsor
  • A scholarship letter from your government or sponsoring organization

Applicants must also send a copy of their passport (photo page).

If you have already applied to our LL.M., M.C.L. or VIP program, you are NOT required to resend financial support documentation and a passport copy.

Student Visa

USC Law will supply I-20 forms for SLE students who are citizens of countries other than the United States. The I-20 form is the United States Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status for Academic and Language Students, which is needed to apply for the F-1 student visa. Applicants who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents MUST obtain a F-1 visa in order to attend the SLE program at USC Law. Students may NOT attend the SLE program on a visitor/tourist visa.

Resume/CV

Along with your application materials, please submit a brief current resume or curriculum vitae via email.

Deadline

The application deadline is May 1. Admission is granted on a first-come, first-served basis. We highly recommend that you apply early to avoid any difficulties with obtaining a visa due to time constraints. All payments must be made by June 1, to avoid the $100 late fee.
