Holman advises and represents charter schools and other parties in charter school financing transactions and with respect to general corporate matters. He has advised and represented parties in over 20 New Markets Tax Credits assisted financings of charter school facilities totaling over $200,000,000 in loans to charter school facility owners and in the issuance of over $250,000,000 in conduit bonds issued to finance the acquisition and development of charter school facilities. He has advised and represented charter school operators in other charter school facility acquisition transactions, in working capital financing transactions, and in corporate restructurings, including the creation of an umbrella corporation to facilitate the national expansion of a charter school operator and the spin-off of a charter school from a nonprofit organization.
Holman advises and represents other parties to real estate acquisition, financing and leasing transactions.
Holman represents financial institutions and other parties in bankruptcy proceedings, out-of-court workouts, commercial litigation and lending transactions. He has particular experience in business bankruptcy cases where he has represented secured and unsecured creditors, indenture trustees, foreign representatives, creditors’ committees, debtors and other parties in interest.
Holman is admitted to practice before all state courts, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Eastern, Northern and Southern Districts of California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Holman is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Los Angeles County Bar Association (former Chair, Executive Committee of Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section), and the Financial Lawyers Conference (former director). He is the Chair of the Board of Synergy Academies, a former director of the Los Angeles County Bar Foundation. a former director of the Los Angeles Bankruptcy Forum, and a former member of the City of Pasadena's Utility Advisory Commission. Holman is an adjunct professor of law at USC. Holman was selected for inclusion in the 2013 through 2016 editions of The Best Lawyers in America and has been named a Super Lawyer for 2017 by Super Lawyers Magazine.
Holman speaks and writes publicly concerning real estate, commercial law, bankruptcy and charter school matters. He has been a speaker at annual conferences of the California Charter School Association.
Holman received a BS in Business Administration, summa cum laude, from the USC and a JD, cum laude, from Harvard Law School.
