Stephan Ray is of counsel to Owens & Gach Ray in Los Angeles. He was admitted to the bar in California in 1979.

Ray attended the UC Berkeley and UCLA, where he received his BA, summa cum laude, in 1976, and was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He then attended Stanford Law School, where he received his JD in 1979, where he was a member and associate editor of the Stanford Law Review. He was an extern to the Honorable Stanley Mosk, associate justice of the California Supreme Court, in 1978.

Ray has been an adjunct professor at the USC Gould School of Law, teaching courses on Corporate Reorganization from 1989 to the present, and also taught Bankruptcy from 2000 to 2001. Ray also has taught at Stanford Law School and Loyola University Law School. Ray has served several Bar positions, including: on the Executive Committee of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of California; as the chair of the Education Committee of the Business Law Section; and as the managing editor for the Annual Review of Recent Developments and Legislation of Interest to California Business Lawyers of the Business Law Section. Ray is also a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, The American Bankruptcy Institute and other legal organizations, serving on various committees during the past 20 years. Ray is listed in the "The Best Lawyers in America," "Best Bankruptcy Lawyers in America" and the "California Super Lawyers."

Abby Wood was quoted about the standard of acceptable behavior established by the Democratic Party. “I’m struck by where the Democrats drew this line. Suppose they had drawn it somewhere between the allegations against Rep. John Conyers and those against Sen. Franken,” Wood explained. “By requesting retirement from Conyers but continuing to work with Franken, the message would have been that women should simply learn to live with some level of sexual harassment and assault. Instead, they seem to have drawn a bold line: no unwanted touching of any kind is permissible, full stop.”
