Publication Membership Survey

The Society for Empirical Legal Studies (SELS), which organizes the annual Conference on Empirical Legal Studies (CELS), is considering some initiatives to maximize the dissemination of quality empirical work on law. In good empirical mode, we are seeking your opinions. You are receiving this survey because you: 1) submitted a paper for presentation at the 2009 CELS, 2) presented a paper at the 2008 CELS, or 3) were a discussant at the 2008 CELS.

For 2009 submitters: Completing this survey is voluntary and your answers or nonresponse will not affect whether your paper is accepted to the 2009 conference.

Currently, papers accepted to CELS are posted on SSRN; authors choose whether to make the posting public or available only to conference participants. After the conference, presenters can submit their final papers to a special conference issue of the Journal of Empirical Legal Studies (JELS). JELS obtains outside reviews on the submitted papers and selects about a dozen papers for the Conference Issue.

SELS is considering two potential additional publication opportunities for papers presented at CELS, through an electronic CELS Conference Proceedings Journal. We would appreciate having your input before we decide whether to proceed with either or both.
