USC Law Alumni Profile
Nancy Yaffe, Class of 1995
USC was good to me (and I was a Bruin as an undergrad, so that is really saying something)!"
1. Where do you work? What are you up to?
I am a partner at Folger Levin & Kahn LLP in the area of labor and employment law. I spend most of my time providing clients pre-litigation counseling and advice.
2. How has USC Law had an impact on your career?
USC introduced me to FLK. I got the job as a first year summer associate after just one semester at USC; that was way back in 1993!
3. What is your fondest memory of law school?
I met one of my dearest friends (Nicole Grattan Pearson) standing in front of the door waiting to go into our first year contracts class with Professor Slauson. We had both heard that he likes to call on students by row, and that he always started at the aisle seat. So that very first day I grabbed Nicole’s hand, and we ran into the room and sat right smack in the middle of the middle row! We have been great friends ever since!
4. Which course was the most challenging for you (and why)?
My favorite class at USC was Gender Discrimination with Susan Estrich. I also worked with Professor Estrich as a Research and Teaching Assistant for two years, which was a highlight. I tried to break away from my comfort zone and took “What Lawyers Need to Know About Business.” The class involved math, which wasn't a good thing for me!
5. What advice do you have for current students?
Take classes by the best professors and don't worry about the subject matter. A great professor can make anything interesting!
6. Why do you stay involved with the law school?
Just to give back. USC was good to me (and I was a Bruin as an undergrad, so that is really saying something)!
