Business Law Program

USC Gould's Business Law Program offers unique practice-oriented educational opportunities inside -- and beyond -- the classroom:

Students will acquire the diverse legal and business skills that are necessary to succeed. From downtown L.A. to Santa Monica's Silicon Beach, our students have access to local opportunities with major business, technology and entertainment firms.

Substantive Knowledge and Practical Training

Our curriculum covers both substantive bodies of corporate and business law as well as the "hands on" drafting and negotiating skills required to succeed in business law practice. Skills-based transactional courses provide an opportunity to learn how to draft contracts, negotiate deals, and identify legal and business issues in simulated transactions. Courses are taught by distinguished full-time faculty as well as experienced senior practitioners at leading law firms and in-house legal departments in entertainment, technology, real estate, private equity, venture capital and finance. USC Gould students can also take advantage of the world-renowned USC Marshall School of Business by enrolling in Business School classes or pursuing a dual JD/MBA degree.

Course Selection for Legal Practice

Understandably students are often not sure which courses are necessary to prepare for practice. We take the guesswork out of that process by offering students a customized menu of course sequences from which to select, depending on the student's desired specialization. These sequences track legal practice areas at corporate law firms in areas such as general corporate, finance, real estate, technology and entertainment. All sequences include a transactional skills component.

Small Business Clinic

Breaking away from the traditional law school model, students are encouraged to seek practical experience outside the classroom. The Small Business Clinic allows students to get hands-on experience representing local small businesses.

Internships & Study Abroad

Students can seek in-house internships in the legal departments of major companies in Southern California. Students interested in international practice can pursue a variety of study-abroad programs that provides with first-hand knowledge of other countries' cultures and legal and business structures. Some of the companies students have interned at include: East West Bank, j2 Global, The Cheesecake Factory, and Broadcast Urban.

The Alumni Network

The 10,000+ Trojan Network connects our students to a global community of powerful alumni. Whether it is in the field of Real Estate, Corporate Finance, Mergers & Acquisition, Capital Markets or Tax, our alumni are ready to provide students with the practical advice they need to mold their careers.

Business Law Certificate

For students who wish to specialize in business law, the program offers a Certificate in Business Law which focuses on the legal and business issues in transactional practice. For students who are interested in the business side of the entertainment industry, students can pursue both a Certificate in Entertainment Law and a Certificate in Business Law.
